May 18th 2009 - Robotic Storage Facility, First of its Kind
Breaks Ground in Fort Lauderdale on May 22
Exciting new technology provides unprecedented security for valuables
FT. LAUDERDALE – When we think of the future, we imagine robots, voice activated technology and biometric recognition playing a role in our everyday lives. The future arrived in South Florida with the groundbreaking of RoboVault, the first high-tech robotic storage facility of its kind in the world.
Designed to withstand up to Category 5 hurricanes with 200 mph winds, RoboVault is equipped with back-up power generation. Its unprecedented combination of technology includes retinal scanning, heart beat detection, biometric recognition and private access with 24/7 security monitoring.
Its unique combination of extraordinary storage capabilities and high-tech security features distinguishes RoboVault from all previous storage facilities. A fully automated robotic container retrieval system safely stores valuables ranging in size from exotic automobiles to precious artwork and other priceless items. Adjacent rooms offer climate-controlled wine storage and private safe deposit boxes catering to individual requirements.
The highly anticipated facility is strategically located just north of Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport at the northwest intersection of I-595 and US 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at 3340 SE 6th Avenue.
“Self-storage has evolved over the years to reflect the customers’ needs and market trends,” said RoboVault developer Marvin Chaney, noting that initially all were one story, had no climate control and relatively lax security. “Self-storage began as a product for residential users and expanded to serve businesses of all sizes and institutional users. The product has continued to accommodate the customers’ increased sophistication, with a particular emphasis on security and climate control. This is an exciting time to apply technology in innovative ways.”
Chaney, who began his career as a CPA, has developed self-storage facilities for over 25 years, first in Detroit and then in Florida. In 1986, in response to increasing land costs, he developed the first multi-story self storage facility in the State of Florida.
RoboVault’s advanced robotics technology was produced by the German company, Westfalia Systems, Inc.
On May 22, the groundbreaking ceremony will feature a virtual tour of the facility and a question and answer period with Marvin Chaney. |
